Au cours des années 1970 et 1980, plusieurs artistes alternatifs inspirés par des mouvements similaires dans le monde se portaient en faux contre l'art jugé trop sage, en faisant place à l'improvisation, la performance et la multidisciplinarité dans une irrévérence assumée. Cette énergie et plusieurs des artistes qui l'ont portée ont par la suite contribué à l'essor culturel du Québec sur la scène internationale.
L'exposition pose un regard sur cette époque à travers l'évolution de l'oeuvre de Zilon, ses collaborations avec plusieurs autres marquants et les divers lieux alternatifs emblématiques qui en ont été témoins, du Village gai au Quartier des Spectacles.
In the 1970s and the 1980s, numerous alternative artists were inspired by similar movements throughout the world. With willful irreverence, they pitted themselves against art that took itself too seriously by carving out space for improvisation, performance and multidisciplinary work. This energy - and many of the artists who embodied it - then went on to contribute to the cultural development of Quebec on the international stage.
This exhibition looks back on this era through the evolution of the work of Zilon, his collaborations with other notable artists and the various emblematic and alternative spaces that bore witness to his art, from the Gay Village to the Quartier des Spectacles.
