A Moment in Time With: Piki Soul (Summer 2014) - December 20. 2020

'A MOMENT IN TIME WITH PIKI SOUL'

'Les Caves de Lascaux' at the Old Port of Montreal 2014

On a beautiful June day in 2014, Piki and I leisurely made our way over to this wonderful exhibition which was housed in the Montreal Science Centre in Montreal's Old Port from April to September 2014.  After eating a quick lunch on the grass, we entered the hall and began the tour of amazing frescoes, pre-historic paintings and objects, grottos, videos, Cro-Magnon sculptures and visitor interactive stations.  Here are few pictures I took on that magical day.  Piki took more than I did, but unfortunately we didn't get around to doing the exchange thing!

A Christmas Past in the Resort Town of Banff, Canada - December 16, 2020

Once upon a Christmas past, I took a short day trip to the magnificent resort town of Banff nestled in Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. While I was there, I took the opportunity to capture it's splendor and peacefulness on that Christmas Day.  From majestic mountain peaks, to a sulfur hot springs pool, cozy cabins, snowy trails, frozen waterfalls and a laid back atmosphere, this was the perfect place to be on that perfect day! I hope you enjoy my photos!

Vava Vol's Yoga Den - Your Zen Den Starter - December 15, 2020

Prior to setting up my own zen den, I practiced on a mat on my living room floor while  attending evening and weekend classes learning the classic asanas which are the foundation of a yoga regimen.

I believe in less is more, so here are a few tips on how to set up your quiet space using the basics: a good yoga mat or two, blankets, a bolster, foam or cork blocks, and straps.  As you progress into the more advanced poses you can add more props, but these are the basic starters.

I eventually purchased additional props such as a meditation bench, yoga wall charts, bells, singing bowls, books and instructional records, VHS and DVDs but am always on the lookout for those yoga treasures!

You can also customize your den with your favorites things, such as crystals, books, prints or paintings, fresh flowers, eucalyptus fronds, a Buddah statue, or any small lamps.  I prefer natural ionizer Himalayan salt lamps.  Incorporate a touch of nature in your space, too. Keep everything low to the ground and your den clear from clutter so the energy flows nicely in your space.

If you choose to go with scents, you might like to try the pleasant Palo Santo or Agarbatti incense brands, potpourri, scented candles, fresh flowers or essential oil diffusers while you unwind and listen to relaxation music or the simple sound of silence.

Although it's well known that the best time to practice is early a.m. or p.m., I go with my body clock when I feel the time is right.  That’s the beauty of having your own yoga den so you can close the door, find your peace and quiet and connect to the Self.

As far as literature and media are concerned, I source the lending library at my local yoga association.  It's filled with rare and obsolete books, CDs and DVDs which contain invaluable information about everything yoga.  Every year the association also publishes a series of quarterly newsletters packed with valuable information. I can shop online or at the physical store for anything I may need. It's a great place to hang out and browse or chat with friendly like-minded yogis and teachers!

Outdoor Neon Sign Museum - October 11, 2020

These restored vintage neon commercial signs are from various urban businesses and are permanently displayed in this very cool outdoor neon museum.  These beauties shimmer and glow in their splendor and pride and are even more stunning at night but that's for another post!  Stay tuned!
