Montréal Painter Éric Boudreau's 'The Construction of the Vava Vol Long Painting' - April 27, 2024

When I signed up for Instagram in December 2021, I re-connected with friends I had not been in contact for a long time, one of whom was mixed media artist Éric Boudreau.

In April of 2022, we worked together on the paintings he had begun based on selfies I had taken for my YouTube music videos.

After a November chat, I sent him some of my archived photos to paint.  He chose the one black and white shot taken of me at Les Foufounes Électriques club in Montreal.  It was was taken by TV Hebdo for a one hour documentary film by Radio Québec titled ‘Fou Comme Dans Les Foufounes’ and was aired simultaneously at Radio-Québec and in a private screening at Les Foufounes Électriques on May 30th, 1983.  One hundred photos of the club’s regulars and staff (more notably Renaissance & François Gourd) were snapped by photographer Daniel Gagné and the best shots made it into the film.

On November 28, Éric began his work on the painting he titled ‘The Vava Vol Long Painting’ which he completed on August 21, 2023. The painting arrived at my doorstep shortly thereafter and is proudly displayed in my home at the top of the second floor stairs!

The following photographs of his projected sketches, fill-ins, preliminary drafts and the final work titled ‘The Vava Vol Long Painting’ are the first installation of this series.

Thank you very much Éric for your non-stop high energy and stellar art work! You rock! @1969eb

Enjoy the visual artistic journey!
